*The Thursday evening training has been moved up to 4:00 p.m. (Christmas Eve)

*Be sure to check out the Runners' World Tulsa website for information about several fun New Years' Races

Cross river on pedestrian bridge and go south to first water fountain (at soccer fields). Return to pedestrian bridge, cross river, and follow the River Parks Trail back to Veterans' Park.
Larry suggested that we all try to go out to breakfast on Saturday morning after our run together. So if you are interested the meeting spot will be Cafe Ole, 3509 South Peoria Avenue, Tulsa. I think this will be a great opportunity for us all to get to know each other a little bit better! So if you don't have any plans after the run, come on out!
We are going to start some new things with our blog. We will be featuring different members of our group each week, right now our featured runner is Larry Gullette, so be sure to take a look, and learn a little bit more about Larry. And, don't be surprised to get an email from us asking for a little information and a picture of yourself...you may be next!
Also, don't forget to be emailing us with any milestone moments (if you completed your longest training run, set a PR (personal record), met a training goal, etc), or if you just have something you want to share with the group!
And, I wanted to thank everyone for being such a wonderful group! Kelly and I (of course we aren't biased or anything) believe we have the best group of runners this session. So we have really enjoyed getting to know each of you. And, we want to welcome several new members that have recently joined our group! Don't forget if you haven't been able to make it to a training run, we would love to meet you all. So we really hope to continue to have such a dedicated group. You all deserve a big pat on the back for signing up, coming out, and starting a training session.
Happy Running,
Ashley & Kelly

Meet Larry Gullette!

Larry Gullette is a numbers guy! It is apparent from the very first time you speak to him. Being a numbers man helps with his job as a Credit Manager at Lee Supply, which he has been with for an impressive 21 years! In addition to working hard at his job, he still has plenty of time for outside interests and hobbies. Larry has been very involved in soccer for most of his life, he currently is a college referee, and has played goalkeeper while attending NSU getting his degree in Business Administration. In addition to keeping busy on the soccer field Larry has also enjoyed hiking for many years, he enjoys Glacier and Yosemite in particular. All of this hiking and soccer has led up to Larry’s entry into the running world. Larry hasn’t been running long, but in the short amount of time he has been running he has received several top place finishes in his age and weight group in local 5ks. We are glad to have Larry in our group, and are excited to be part of his entry into the world of long distance running! Larry has never run over 5 miles before April, and in the last month has been running over that on many occasions. So who knows what great distances Larry will have in him in the future! So be sure to find Larry at one of the group runs, to find our more fun facts about him.

If anyone else set a PR (personal record) or wants to let the group know of an accomplishment, please be sure to let us know! Just a reminder that there is a group run this evening at Runners' World Tulsa at 5:30 p.m. So if you can make it out we will be happy to see you! Bundle up it is a little chilly out today.

Jingle Bell Run Update

Many of our group are planning on running the Jingle Bell Run on Saturday morning. I (Ashley) will also be running in the race. I have had a couple of questions reguarding the plans for Saturday. The schedule calls for either 3 miles (beginner) or 5 miles (advanced), so I would suggest just running the Jingle Bell Race (you are still welcome to come out to Veterans' Park to meet the entire team!) if you are planning on following the beginner schedule. If you are going to follow the advanced schedule, I will run the first two miles with you all down at Veterans' Park, and then we can head down to the Jingle Bell Run to finish out our last three miles. Anyone who wants to just meet at the Jingle Bell Run, let's plan on meeting in front the Starbucks (it is on the west side of Peoria) at 35th and Peoria at 9:15 a.m. I probably won't have our team sign at the Jingle Bell Run, since I won't have any place to stick it before running. But, check out our blog, my picture is on there (I might look a little different in a stocking cap!) and I will wear a black Runners' World Tulsa shirt, and a black Runners' World Tulsa jacket. I am very excited to meet everyone! So I hope I see you all on Saturday. And, good luck to everyone running in the Jingle Bell Run!

First Training Session Email

Good morning!

My name is Ashley Snyder and together with Kelly Pound we will be your run leaders for the half marathon training session with Runners’ World Tulsa. This is our second time being run leaders for a half marathon group and we are both really excited to get this session started!

The new training session will start Saturday morning, December 12th at Veterans’ Park (18th and Boulder) at 7:45 a.m. There is plenty of parking in the areas around the park. And, if you need directions or have any questions, please feel free to email us at happypace.tulsa@gmail.com.

This session we have been divided up more by our anticipated pace for our Saturday long runs. So we are going to be aiming for a 10-11 minute per mile pace on Saturday mornings. We would normally be divided up into beginner or advanced half marathon, but our group has a wide variety of experience, so we will provide the routes and distances for both. We may end up dividing up a little bit, but we will see how it goes for a few weeks.

December 12-This is also the day of the Jingle Bell Run on Brookside, so if you have signed up for that race this Saturday, Runners’ World has tried to design the route to allow you to participate in both events.

Beginner Half (3 miles): Option 1: Run the Jingle Bell Run. Option 2: Go south on River Parks Trail to 31st. Follow 31st to Cincinnati and go south to 34th. Retrace steps back to Veterans’ Park.

Advanced Half (5 miles): Option 1: Run the Jingle Bell Run and do 2 extra miles on your own. Option 2: Go south on River Parks Trail to 31st. Follow 31st to Cincinnati and go south to 34th. Turn left and go to Peoria. Go south on Peoria to 41st. Retrace Steps.

Let me know if you are planning on doing the Jingle Bell Run, and we can get together to run the race also.

Kelly and I will have team signs (so look for a Happy Pace sign!) made up for Saturday morning, and we will have the routes printed out for each of you. So we hope to see you all on Saturday!

We have put together a blog for our team, so please feel free to check it out for any additional information. And, as always if you have any questions, please feel free to email us.
